How it works
The Laundry Index is a weather indicator created by Stendibiancheria.eu to estimate outdoor laundry drying speed.
This page explains the method: not just weather forecasts, but a score designed to answer a practical question.
Weather factors used
- Temperature: supports water evaporation.
- Humidity: higher humidity usually slows drying.
- Wind: improves air exchange and speeds up drying.
- Sun: increases available heat on fabrics.
- Atmospheric pressure: helps interpret stable vs changing weather.
- Rain probability and atmospheric trend: reduce drying reliability outdoors.
How to interpret the score
Lower values suggest slow drying or unfavorable conditions. Higher values suggest faster drying and better convenience for hanging clothes outdoors.
Practical examples
25°C with high humidity can dry worse than 18°C with wind and sun.
Low index (0-40): reduce exposure time or prefer covered outdoor areas.
Medium index (40-60): drying is possible but not fast.
High index (60-100): generally favorable conditions for quick drying.
